A thruppence for a celebratory slap up binge at Mrs. Miggins’ pie shop?
Yes, libations are in order
I've been exceedingly cautiously optimistic this time.
And I still am.
The Democrats may still resoundingly screw this up. I'm hoping not, but they may. They have a whole lot of work ahead of them. The American people just slammed some enormous boxes of papers on their desks and said "Fix this." It'll be a lot of work.
We need accountability. But, more than that, we need to publicly identify everything wrong with the system and make it a platform for 2028 because, remember people, we need to do this again in another two years.
America's dominance in the world is over - get used to that. That's not coming back for a very long time. But what America can do is fix itself first. The whole world has been looking upon us, aghast, at how we've been shooting ourselves in the foot, the knees, the groin, and acting like an utter moron on the old TV show Jackass. Now we have to show them that we can fix all of that.
To be certain: There is relief here abroad. But they still won't trust us. I implore the Democrats not to get sidetracked with a whole lot of social agenda issues - fix the underlying problems first. Fix the reason why people have problems with a whole host of social agenda issues, and then you solve a lot of bigger things from the ground up.
And please, for the love of whatever you believe in: Do go after the Republicans with a vengeance. If the Democrats don't think that this was an election based upon wanting to see justice, then there's no hope. Biden's "Let's make nice again" approach was never going to work because we hadn't won the war yet. We can use that after we win the war. We didn't win it last night - we won a battle. An important first battle. But still only a battle.
So yes, celebrate. I certainly am. But let's not lose sight of the real goal.
