Early Sunday Morning Cleaning
1. Getting up too early
One of the things which I changed in my life is my schedule. I used to go to bed after dawn on most days. I liked the quiet time of the night. But then, I'd wake up around noon and felt like the entire day had gone by and that I had missed it. It's a feeling I really didn't enjoy.
However, it hit me: If I get up extra early, I can have that quiet time, and not feel like the day has passed me by. It took a bit of doing but I ended up sort of reversing my schedule in a lot of ways. It has done an immense good. However, the insomnia doesn't help. I can go to bed at 10 but I'll still wake up at 3am because of it. I'll be exhausted, but I just can't get back to sleep. Hence, the 3am wakeup this morning. Sometimes it's 4am or even 5am.
Getting up too early (3:30am) means extra time to get things done.
In this case: redoing all my logins for my new emails. This time, I'm using aliases - dumping "Hide My Email" from Apple and using my own domain which can produce and revoke emails on the fly.
My password list is huge and dates back over 25 years, so there will be a lot of deletions. A lot. I hope. I'm guessing most of those sites don't even exist anymore, so it's time for them to go.
At any rate, Sunday is usually my cleaning day. Kitchen, bathroom, etc…vacuum, laundry - the whole shebang. It's a perfect time to clean out files as well. And this time, it's passwords. And boy, was it a mess - still is, but it's getting sorted.
2. Zellij
One thing I did do yesterday of note (amongst many others) is finally replace tmux with Zellij. I always had it figured that Zellij was a sort of hipster doofus thing for people who use VScode, Flutter, and live for Javascript crap while programming in gamer chairs with LED colored lights everywhere. You know - doofuses. But no, it's actually quite good. And the reason I moved to it was because that tmux just doesn't work locally on my Mac. It quits after two minutes. Some sort of signal gets sent to kill it when not in focus. That has bothered me for years and years now.
Why use Tmux locally? Because I hate opening 10 tabs for a local Terminal. It annoys me. It gets messy. With tmux or Zellij, things remain clean.
So, out of pure exasperation, I decided to try Zellij. Well, colour me surprised. It works beautifully. So beautifully, in point of fact, that I put it on all of my servers.
I guess some hipster doofuses can be right about some things. Broken clocks and all of that. Either way, it's a huge quality of life improvement for me on the CLI local side.
There was an end point to this post, but it has temporarily escaped the author's mind.
