I've been working on something

1. It's been a while

I haven't posted in a few months, but there's a good reason for that: I've been working on an app which I'm about to release as well as the service related to it. I think it'll be good. In fact, I hope that it will be very good. I've been working on it for over two months, and using it every day rather successfully. When I announce it in a few weeks, it'll be on public beta for a few weeks before I finally go live. I'm considering releasing it as FOSS but retaining the rights for a paid service for myself - slightly different from the Nextcloud model, but that's because I'd like to retire someday. It's mostly geared towards people who use their browsers - people like journalists, editors, researchers, functionaries with lots of government portal sites open, etc…it can do far more than the original intended purpose, but it's the obvious audience for me to start attracting.

As for what is happening in the world? What can I say? What can anyone say? It's about as bad of a future as anyone could have realistically predicted a few decades ago. I have no influence so I'm not going to worry about it anymore. I've written off America as a lost cause. It broke my heart to accept that, but it's where we're at. Even with a Democratic win in the midterms, and even if there are elections and we manage to forcibly dislodge Trump from the White House, the tasks to reform American society are so gargantuan that I don't think following our current laws and procedures will ever get that done. In fact, I don't think anything that we do politically can fix that broken nation, so I'm just going to stop trying. I haven't lived there since 2010 and I've finally accepted that I'm probably never going back, given current and probable future state.

So, given that, this will be a European product - meaning, it'll be under an .eu address, and it will be fully covered by GDPR. I will, naturally, accept anyone using it around the world, but I want to help with the European tech image. After all, Deezer started here in France, as did other very famous products. Mine probably won't be as famous, but I'd like to say that I did help to contribute even in an infinitesimally tiny way.
