Replacing coffee with tea

1. Three days

My last cup of coffee was four days ago. This is my third day drinking only tea. My routine used to be a big coffee press mug of coffee every morning - which is ungodly early for most people as I wake up between three and four in the morning each and every morning. Then, being all wired up, I'd wait until tea time to have some tea in the afternoon (as any civilized person does at that time).

The reason is that if I drank coffee - even a small espresso (which, contrary to most American beliefs, does not contain all that much caffeine compared to what I drink in the morning) - it would likely prevent me from sleeping soundly at a decent hour at night.

I do love coffee, but I can't drink too much of it as a migraine sufferer. If I do, it risks triggering migraines. And as much as I love coffee, I also love tea, and the little rituals surrounding it sometimes. I therefore decided to try just drinking tea for a while and seeing how I would manage.

So, it's my third day and I'm happy to report (as if anyone had ever asked or will ever read this) that as far as my awake status goes, it's all OK. No real changes. There's a smoother curve than coffee going up and down. And the best part is: I get to drink more than one mug or cup in the morning. I get to drink a few, in fact. This breaks up my day into nicer little slots.

I'll continue this for a while and see what happens. I haven't given up coffee - I'll still grab an espresso sometimes with friends, I think - but overall, I do have to say that I'm quite enjoying this change.

At least for now.
