RSS - Reduce Enshittification

1. Use RSS

Cory Doctorow has a wonderful piece out today called Pluralistic: The web is bearable with RSS (07 Mar 2026) in which he talks about RSS feeds. RSS, for those who don't know, is one of the best things ever created. I'll let you read the piece to to find out why. Suffice it to say that I have been using RSS since it first appeared, and it is fantastic. Since years now, I even have had my own RSS server, which not only syncs all my RSS readers together, but allows me to read feeds directly in a web page on my server in perfect comfort. Normally, I use the wonderful elfeed in Emacs, but I also use Reeder on iOS - they all sync to my FreshRSS instance on my server.

If you don't have your own server at home or in a virtual cloud somewhere, you can use other services mentioned in the piece. But you can also just get an app that pulls RSS feeds directly. I did that for years before installing my own server that does that, and it's basically the same exact thing.

With the new push to get off of big tech and to go independent, I cannot more highly recommend going with reading stuff online via RSS.
